"어린왕자별"
어디선가 아름답게 쌓은 석축을 보고 감명을 받아 나는 처음 이 작품을 실용적 차원에서 커다란 화분으로 구상을 하였다. 이름 짓는 것은 조금 어색하지만 "어린왕자별" 이라며 막연하게 이름을 갖고 있었는데 이번 레지던시 프로그램을 통해 공장으로부터 나오는 부산물로 나의 이야기를 조금이나마 할 수 있었다. 나는 지난해부터 ㅡ 물론 이야기는 조금 더 거슬러 올라가지만ㅡ소외된 재료로 이미지를 구축하기 시작하며 이야기를 전개 하였는데, 이번주제는 어린왕자의 행성을 모티브로 내가 갖고 있던 유년의 기억과 지금 어른들이 갖고 있는 환경에 대한 생각들이 얽혀 하나의 구체를 만들게 되었다.

버려진 것들로 부터의 유희
나는 이 작품이 주는 의미를 버릴 수가 없다. 이것들은 나의 고향 보령이 돌산지라는 것을 반영하며, 나의 유년 기억 중 고향의 돌 먼지는 하나의 신기루처럼 보였다, 뿌연 안개와 소음이 가라앉은 다음 무엇인가 만들어지는 광경은 나에게 작은 호기심으로 다가왔다.
버려진 것들로부터의 유희는 나의 오래된 주제이다.
첫 번째 개인전이 그랬고 이번 두 번째 개인전도 그렇다. 언젠가부터 고향의 산들은 아름다움을 잃어가기 시작하고 산의 부산물들은 주로 땅에 묻히곤 하였다.
이제는 그 부산물들도 가치를 가지기 시작하여 여러 곳에 쓰임으로 변모하여 산의 아름다웠던 시절을 보상이라도 하듯 그 역할을 하고 있다. 비로소 나는 흩어지고 묻힐 것들을 모아 그것들의 의미를 확대 해보고자 한다.
그리고 그것들은 사람의 모습과 생각을 닮아 있다.

When I saw a beautifully constructed piece of stonework somewhere, it was such an inspiration to me that I first conceived my work as a huge plant pot at a practical level. Naming it felt a bit awkward, but I vaguely thought of calling it “the Star of the Little Prince.” Through this residency program, I was able to tell a little story about myself using byproducts produced in a factory. Since last year—although it dates back more than a year—I have been constructing images using abandoned materials and then creating stories. This time, I was motivated by the stars featured in “The Little Prince,” combined my childhood memories and the thoughts our contemporary grownups have about the environment, and integrated them into a spherical object.

I can't overlook the meaning of this work. This work reflects the fact that my hometown is Dolsanji. From the memory of my childhood, some stone dust floating in the air looked like a mirage. I was curious about seeing the scene of making something after the fog and noise would sink down.
Pleasure from the abandoned is my old subject.
My first private exhibition and second one had the same subject. At some point, the mountains in my hometown have started losing their beauty. The by-products of the mountains used to be buried, but now they have became valueable and changed to be useful.
They play a noble part to make compensation for the loss of beautiful mountains time. I'd like to extend the meaning of them by collecting things that will be buried and scattered. They are similar to human's figures and thoughts.
