한국을 방문하자마자 받은 첫 인상은 꽃에 대한 사람들의 인식입니다. 꽃은 한국 국민과 역사의 중요한 일부인 듯합니다. 전시 기념식, 일반 가정집, 식당, 거리 곳곳은 물론 옛날 예술가들의 작품에서도 꽃을 볼 수 있었습니다. 그래서 한국 사람들의 철학에는 꽃이 중요함을 짐작할 수 있었습니다.
꽃은 아름다움, 사랑, 존중의 상징입니다. 장례식에서도 죽은 자들에 대한 존중을 뜻하고자 꽃으로 장식합니다. 필자 역시 작품에서 사랑과 아름다움의 상징으로서 꽃을 표현하고자 하였습니다.
우리는 꽃을 그린 수많은 회화 작품을 알고 있습니다. 사람들이 저마다 다른 것처럼 이러한 작품도 각자 개성을 지닙니다. 저의 주된 의도는 꽃의 진정한 아름다움과 짧은 수명을 표현하는 것이기 때문에 다른 요소를 추가하지 않고 꽃만 그리고 있습니다. 예술가의 눈으로 꽃을 바라보면 꽃이 메마를지언정 그 아름다움을 잃지는 않습니다. 또한 예술가는 각자 창작 과정에서 자신이 느낀 감정을 작품에 표현하고자 합니다.
저의 회화 작품에는 꽃의 이미지가 분명히 묘사되어 있되 다른 요소나 오브제들은 부차적입니다. 이 부차적인 요소들은 회화 작품에 그려진 꽃들에 활기를 불어넣고 이를 심리적으로 강조하여 관람객의 주의를 끌 수 있습니다.
주지하듯 꽃은 아름답고 마법 같은 힘을 가지고 있지만 수명이 짧습니다. 그래서 제가 그린 꽃들만큼은 시들지 않고 영원한 삶을 누리기를 바랍니다.
First impression of my visiting Korea is people's attitude to flowers. Flowers seem the part of Korean Nation and their history. Because i could see flowers everywhere : opening ceremony of exhibitions, people's living houses, restaurants, streets, as well as in artworks of ancient artists. So i can see that fowers associate with korean people's philosophy
Flowers are symbol of beauty, love, respect. Moreover funerals are usually decorated with flowers as symbol of great respect to people after their death. Therefore i tried to describe flowers in my artworks as a symbol of love and beauty.
It is true that we know a lot of paintings with flowers. But they are all unique as people.
I draw flowers without any extra elements, because my main intention is to show the real beauty of a flower and its short life. If you look at them through artist's eye they don't lose their beauty even they become dry.
Another reason, each artist tries to add the piece of his emotion in creating process.
In my painting the image of a flower is clearly described and other elements or objects are subordinate which can give spirit and psychologically intensify flowers in painting and attract your attention.
As i mentioned above flowers are beautiful and have magic but their life is short . Thus i hope flowers which i described won't wither and have eternal life.
